Training Schedule

2010/2011 training schedule coming soon!

Training day expectations

1. Helmets are REQUIRED for ALL riders (and coaches) – no age or ability exceptions!

2. Properly adjust all equipment BEFORE practice.
  • Riders also need to be independently capable of on-hill adjustments should the need arise throughout the day. Coaches want to dedicate their time to teaching skills and techniques, not getting riders in and out of bindings, gloves, etc.

3. On-time arrival – 9:00 a.m. SHARP!
  • Meeting time & place: 9:00 a.m. near the Arrow lift in front of the Balcony house.
  • Talk about conditions (potential hazards).
  • Discuss a plan for practice during warm up/stretching.
  • If a rider is late or misses this, they are expected to do their own warm up and take on the responsibility of finding the team and getting information about the day.
  • If late, a rider can call their coach to find the group or have the Competition Center call the coach if they do not have a phone.

4. Stay with the group.
  • Riders who get separated from the group are expected to be able to either find the group, or get to the base of the resort safely. The Competition Center office staff is happy to contact your coach if you get separated, but it is your responsibility to get to our office in the Balcony House.
  • Intentionally leaving the group means the practice day is over for a rider.
  • Leaving without notifying a coach directly is unacceptable. All riders must inform their coaches beforehand if and when they need to leave practice early.

5. Daily routine:
  • On most mornings, WPST does large group training sessions that entail turning drills, ollie drills, freeriding, etc.
  • For terrain park riders, following warm up activities, practice typically entails clinics on specific features where riders hike one feature and learn specific tricks or skills. Also, some groups take laps through the terrain parks working on a specific skill on different features.

6. Lunch is taken around 11:00 or 12:00 (unsupervised time). Afternoon meeting time and place is discussed before lunch. Riders are expected to bring lunch or money to purchase lunch on the mountain. Lunch typically takes place at Moffat Market in West Portal.

7. Pickup at the end of the day is at 3:30 pm is the same as the morning meeting spot.
